Once you have completed editting your movie and adding your effects you will want to save it to a new AVI file as FadeToBlack does not alter your original files. To save your AVI either click on the "Save AVI" button from the main menu, or select from the menu bar "File"->"Save AVI File".
You will then see the "Save AVI" screen. ![]() The initial screen will show the Video Compression options. FadeToBlack gives you several options for setting the video compression. ![]() These options are... Same As Original (recommended) For the easiest and quickest results you should use this option. This enables FadeToBlack to use compressed frames directly from the original AVI file, which will dramatically speed up the saving process. For most users this is the recommended option. This option is also available for the audio compression. Uncompressed Video This saves the video frames without any compression. This will produce much larger AVI files, but has the advantage of zero quality loss. Using this option is not generally recommended unless you plan to re-edit the saved AVI afterwards. Basic Video Compression With this option, FadeToBlack makes all the difficult choices for you, since to beginners the choice of CODECs, bit depth, data rate, key frames and the additional options given by each CODEC can be a little overwhelming. Here you will only have to select the width, height and frame rate of the output AVI. Advanced Video Compression FadeToBlack lets you access all the options available so you can define exactly how you want the AVI file to be compressed. For example, you would use this screen if you wanted to compress your file using the popular DivX CODEC. The "Video Codec" list will display all the video CODECs installed on your system. ![]() Sequence Of Separate JPG Files This is a specialist option. It will not save an AVI file. Instead it saves a JPG still image file for each frame of the editted movie. These files will be sequentially numbered (0001.jpg, 0002, jpg, 0003.jpg...). Since this outputs image files, audio is disabled when using this option. Sequence Of Separate BMP files This is the same as "Sequence Of Separate JPG Files", but saves BMP (Windows Bitmap) files instead of JPG files. To select your audio format click on the button at the top labeled "Audio". ![]() As with the video compression, you have several methods of selecting the audio compression you require. ![]() This options are... Same As Original (recommended) As with the video compression, for the easiest and quickest results you should use this option. This enables FadeToBlack to use compressed audio directly from the original AVI file, which will dramatically speed up the saving process. For most users this is the recommended option. No Audio (Mute) This will turn off all audio saving, and produce a silent movie. Always use this option (or "Save As Original") if you have a silent movie. Uncompressed Audio This saves the audio without any compression. This will result in a larger AVI file, so it not recommended unless you intend to re-edit your AVI file after saving it. Here you have the option to set the "Channels" (mono, stereo), the "Sample Rate" (number of digital samples per second), and the "Sample Size" (size of each digital sample). Compressed Audio Here you can select the audio CODEC and the relative audio format you wish to compress to. The "Audio Codecs" list will display all the audio CODECs installed on your system. ![]() When you have set your video and audio compression parameters accordingly (or selected "Same As Original" for quickest results) you need to choose an appropriate filename and then press the "Save" button. To choose a filename, you need to click on the "Browse" button provided. ![]() This will then open up a standard Windows dialog for you to select the AVI filename you wish save as. Click the "Save" button off the dialog when you have entered your AVI filename.
Now you are ready to commit all your edits to your new AVI file. Press the "Save" button. ![]() A progress bar will show you how long you have to wait until your AVI file has been completely saved. You will also see the preview image in the left-hand side of the screen visually showing you the position of your saved movie. You can press the "Cancel" button at any time during the save and FadeToBlack will round off your finished file to that point. When the save is finished, you can click on the "Play AVI" button, which will then launch your default AVI player with the finished movie. ![]() To return to the main menu of FadeToBlack press the "Main Menu" button at the top-right corner of FadeToBlack. ![]() |
